Platycnemis pennipes

Platycnemis pennipes, male

Is a common species in running waters in the southern part of Sweden. Although the species is quite common it is a little bit tricky to find as it often is resting and the pale colours makes it hard to spot.

Key characteristics

The only Swedish species with double shoulder line and flattened legs makes it almost impossible to mix up with other species.

In air

June until August. Occurs in the southern third of Sweden (not present in Öland and Gotland).
