Orthetrum coerulescens

Orthetrum coerulescens, male

This species is much more rare than O. cancellatum but can be found locally in southern Sweden. It is mostly seen resting on a stone close to water were it observes it’s area and rapidly takes off to chase away intruders. It can be found both in lakes and running waters

Key characteristics

Yellow ptersostigma (black at O. cancellatum) smaller than O. cancellatum

In air

July until September according to the literature, but I have personally seen it in beginning of June.
